“Isolde’s Ascension” at the National Centre for Contemporary Arts in Moscow

The Stella Art Foundation presented Bill Viola’s “Isolde’s Ascension” as part of the “Mystifiers” exhibition that is at the National Centre for Contemporary Arts until 20 March.

The display consists of selected series of works by artists from different generations whose art is devoted to transforming reality and constructing models of the non-existent. In showing mutations of the modern world, the artists underline the importance of maintaining the leading 20th century trends — Dadaism, surrealism, conceptualism and simulationism — in the artistic techniques of the 21st century.

The exhibition addresses the theme of mystification in works of such famous artists as Barbara Kruger, Damien Hirst, Tony Matelli, Wim Delvoye, George Condo, Paul McCarthy, Tony Oursler, Bill Viola, Yasumasa Morimura, Keiichi Tanaami, Peter Saul, Erwin Wurm, and Joel-Peter Witkin. The works of the artists on display in this project use differing artistic approaches and creative strategies to immerse the viewer in an idealized space of fantastic illusions, wonderful or terrible dreams, fictional worlds and otherworldly civilizations.
